Treasures
at a distance
I can see the lights from far away
just slivers of them dancing
over that dusky hill
touching the paper rolled out
dripping pigment, I watch
colors run and chase,
bloom and grow
no peeking, now
dust of bright sky spills
ruby living coral growth
over old white bones
they’re coming over
the lights, obscuring games
twilight hide and seek
chase me, find me
rolled out stretch of suede
trim and soft
a subtle madness
lies before me
I’ve scratched it all down
pinned it to a board
unmoving beauty
trapped and fluttering
my wrist aches
as distance closes
their eyes shining gold
through living lines
dancing
now they sing
and play among the treasures
all of us found, together
