The Mind-Seal
“The Mind-Seal” — Bodhi-mind, the mind of the Buddhas, the heart of the teaching transmitted directly, is symbolized by the red ink seal.
This is the latest in my quest to translate small, complex circular designs into large, colorful, lightweight paintings. On a large piece of wood panel, I traced my design using a digital projector. Then, I glued thick, acrylic “blanket” yarn directly onto the lines. Letting the giant stamp dry, I applied red acrylic paint to the yarn surface with a brayer and pressed the whole thing down onto a prepared canvas. The stamp has now been permanently altered, and any image I make from it will be different.
I encourage you to page through the images that illustrate this process.
This acrylic painting is maize gold and deep red, is impactful across the room but has lots of fascinating texture when viewed closely. It measures 24 × 24 inches, and is varnished, wired and ready to display.
