Watercolor and gouache on a 20” birch circle.

I use a labor-intensive process of multiple watercolor pours with recycled plastic pressed into it to add texture, then painting over that surface with white gouache.

We had a very wet spring in the Pacific Northwest in 2022 that lasted through May. Delighted, I took many pictures of mosses, fungi and ensatinas I found on or near my home. This image is synthesized from those, featuring 118 (or so) mushroom caps. Step into its dark and fascinating world with a hopeful clutch of eggs as a surprise.
