separated

If you want me,
don’t ask me for anything.
whisper to me as you stoop to tie your boots
gasp as the misted view appears
sigh as your sore toes touch the stream
just tell me how much you love me.

If you want me,
let grasses tickle your outstretched fingers,
while winds tug and press at your shirtsleeves.
please pick the apples before they fall,
and savor my sweet kiss on your tongue
promise me you’ll never hurt me
protect me
then pray with me
the offering of our open hearts
will be our holy communion
and when we finally join as one
I humbly suggest
that we work on rebuilding
our former relationship.
