It’s the Turning of the Year

….toward dark, cool, and rainy. Hello Pacific NorthWest Autumn - nice to see you again!

Speaking of this beautiful place, I LOVE being surrounded by trees. I’ll admit it. I’m obsessed with trees. In case you haven’t noticed, trees and circles are things I keep coming back to. When I let down my guard, and I’m in creative mode, I just can’t help it. (Actually, would it be so terrible, if I painted nothing but this?)

I started this painting with a big circle, and various layers of acrylic paint texturing, but then a tree started to appear. So, I went with it. This one has a lot of depth and metallic gold sheen.

Yggdrasil, The Sky-High Tree, or Laurelin, one of the the Two Trees of Valinor — whatever it means to you, as a massive, ancient tree at the beginning and end of all things, touching the heavens.

First Age” 20 x 20 acrylic on canvas. $390

Well, I hope you enjoy trees as much as I do. Because here’s another one.

Is it a magical rainbowed tree with mystical silvery powers? Sure, maybe. But it can be any tree, seen through the eyes of everyday magic. Each day, a 40 foot tree takes in 50 gallons of dissolved nutrients from the soil, raises this mixture to its topmost leaves, converts it into 10 pounds of carbohydrates and releases about 60 cubic feet of pure oxygen into the air.

The generosity of trees is something I learned from Shel Silverstein, by reading this book as a kid.

“The New Giving Tree”, 11 x 14 acrylic and silver leaf on canvas, $150. available at Village Gallery of Arts until November 26.

Holiday Cards!

Each year, I’ve made my unique Interfaith/Secular vibe holiday cards available for purchase - at whatever gallery I’ve been showing in at the time. But I haven’t made them available online yet…..Until now! By popular request, here you go: deluxe card sets of 10 with envelopes, $25…three colorful designs to choose from.

I can send these to you for $8 within the Continental US. If you live farther away, I’d be happy to ship you a box - please inquire! Shipping can get a little steep overseas, so I would want to calculate this out for you first. Email me at leah@leahjayart.com.

Light a fire in the hearth, warm your hands with a hot mug of cider, and enjoy autumn…
